Friends of Area 15 are teaming together to raise $35,000 to finish building the courtyard which includes completing the back stage, adding two more bathrooms to the building and renovating the back patio for visitors, concerts and events. We’d also like to fix up the parking lot and make both cosmetic and functional changes to the building.

Ranging in ages 12-25, we envision connecting with individuals from a variety of backgrounds with a passion to uplift the underprivileged and the at risk generation. NewSchool Venture (NSV) announces the kickoff of its first “Reach One, Teach One” Festival scheduled on Saturday April 27 at Area 15 in the Noda district of Charlotte NC (the corner of North Davidson and 15^th Street.) The public is invited to attend the Open House and Festival featuring music, food, entertainment, and prizes scheduled from 11 AM to 7 PM.

Anarchism and Christianity X Conference

A decade. That is how long Jesus Radicals has been gathering people together to explore the intersections of counter-cultural Christian faith and anarchist politics. Together, new and old friends have met to discuss economics, peacemaking, intentional community, immigration, the technological society, experiments in alternative living, resisting oppressions, un/schooling, sexuality, deconstructing civilization, non/violence, the prison-industrial complex and more.

This year, we will explore how reflection on personal stories and communal histories, on radical Christian and other movements for social transformation, and on ideas for embodying God’s upside-down kingdom, can support ongoing resistance to oppression, to despair and spiritual fatigue, and to forces that threaten our bodies, our fellow creatures, and our earth-home. We hope you will join this tenth year event to share more ideas, network with each other, and teach and learn together.

2012 Gathering Updates

July 5: We received news today that speaker Kifu Faruq will be unable to join us for the gathering after all. Any suggestions for other speakers (preferably women and preferably local) who can speak on food justice issues? On another note, we also posted descriptions for Anthony Nocella’s Quakerism, Solidarity, Property Destruction and Arm Struggle session, and his Anarcho-Dis-Ability Quarkerism workshop. June 2: Anarchist panther Ashanti Alston Omwali and Green Space Initiative director Kifu Faruq are now on board. It is shaping up to be a stellar event.

May 31: We are glad to welcome Willie Baptist and John Wessel-McCoy of the Poverty Initiative and Dr. Anthony Nocella II to this year’s speakers line-up. More confirmations are expected in the next week.
